Mount Sinabang in North Sumatra province Indonesia erupted on Sunday for the first time in four centuries, with ashes and smoke shooting 1.5 km into the air, killing one person and prompting the evacuation of over 10,000 people from nearby villages, officials said.
Here is Sinabang in the distance taken from the caldera of Mount Sibayak in 1997 by yours truly on a hike that Andy and I did to repeat a hike that my mom and dad did in 1935.
And, here is the same photo taken by my parents in 1935. I was not aware of this photo at the time I took my photo in 1997.
